During the 8-week course, Leo Mancini-Hresko, an experienced instructor who has trained and taught at the Florence Academy of Art, will teach you the Size-Sight drawing method. Through the course, you will learn how to accurately execute Charles Bargue plates and plaster casts using the method. Additionally, you will become familiar with the materials commonly used for this technique. By the end of the course, you will have gained a solid understanding of Size-Sight drawing and be able to incorporate this method into your own artwork.
Week 1: Materials and Introduction to Sight-Size Method
During the first week of the course, Leo will introduce you to the materials necessary for the Sight-Size drawing approach. You will also receive an overview of key considerations when using this method for measurement.

During the second week of the course, Leo will provide instruction on the Charles Bargue course, which serves as the basis for academic drawing study. Through this instruction, you will learn how to visually analyze what you see in a highly precise and simplified manner.

In the third week of the course, Leo will use an intermediate Bargue plate to demonstrate the Sight-Size method. Through this demonstration, you will learn how to begin your drawing with a block-in of contours and shadow shapes, using straightforward and simplified lines.

During the fourth week of the course, you will observe Leo as he completes his drawing of an intermediate Bargue plate. Throughout this process, you will learn how to critique your own artwork and pay close attention to edge quality and value contrast as you approach the finishing stages of a drawing.

During the fifth week of the course, Leo will demonstrate how to draw a plaster cast using charcoal. Through this demonstration, you will learn how to visually measure nature and then double-check its accuracy using a plumb line.

In the sixth week of the course, Leo will expand upon his block-in drawing of a plaster cast. Through this instruction, you will learn how to define shadow and light shapes, and then transform them into forms. Additionally, Leo will provide an overview of the nine-step value theory.

In the seventh week of the course, Leo will continue to work on his drawing of a plaster cast. Through this instruction, you will learn how to further develop value contrast and value compression in your tonal drawing.
