Learn the basic principles of logo design as you find your personal identity as a designer
Balancing simplicity and distinctiveness is one of the most difficult tasks in graphic design and one that Sagi Haviv excels at. Through the years, the New York-based designer has created iconic logos for the US Open Tennis Championships, Harvard University Press, Conservation International, and many more. This course will help you break some misconceptions about design and will help you elevate your work and your portfolio. Through the process of working on a logo and identity for a client, you will explore your own identity as a graphic designer.
By the end of this course, you will not only have become a better designer but also a more focused one, with all the tools to design an iconic logo and sell it to a client.
The course starts with Sagi telling you about his path, from a boy living on a farm in Israel to an intern at the company he now owns. He tells the story behind some of his most important projects, as well as some of the design pieces that inspire him most.
Before talking about logo design, Sagi hopes to change your mindset by redefining the profession of graphic design to include many more things apart from “just designing.”
What constitutes a good logo? By going through six different logos, Sagi explains the principles of logo design, as well as some misconceptions. He also analyzes some of the logos sent by Domestika users, to determine if any of them have the secret sauce.
To design a good logo, a good idea is definitely the place to start. But how do you transform an idea into something iconic? This is where your project starts. You will choose and study a client in order to understand them, and then you will start sketching logo ideas by hand.
After selecting the best sketches, you will move on to the computer to vectorize your design, incorporate typography, and work on logo applications.
The final part of this course revolves around the presentation. Learn how to make a case around your logo to help sell it to your potential client. Sagi gives tips to help you achieve the ultimate goal: seeing your logo out in the wild.
What is this course’s project?
As a final project, you will have to find a client, to design a logo for their business and to convince them to adopt it. So, at the end of this course, you will not only have the logo but also the tools to sell it.U1
