WHAT ARE WE MAKING? This is a step by step tutorial on concepting a robotic character from start to finish (NO TIME-LAPSES). The tutorial runs at normal speed with real-time explanations of what I’m doing, so it’s better suited for beginners and not advanced users.

We use ZBrush to create a rough sculpt of the character and explore the design, we briefly transition into Keyshot for some fast and easy renders and we finalize the image with Affinity Photo to paint some panel lines and other effects to make our final image look awesome!

TOPICS ZBRUSH:

Useful Brushes. Concepting in ZBrush. The 70/30 rule. Using Kitbash for extra detail (I used a paid pack but there’s a lot of free ones out there you can use).

KEYSHOT:

Simple Lighting Setup. Basic Materials and extra Render Passes. Camera and Render Settings.

AFFINITY PHOTO:

Painting out mistakes and drawing Panel Lines. Experimenting with our Render Passes. Using adjustment layers to change the colors. Overlaying textures for detail and effects.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT Duration: 10 hours of video recordings (aprox. 7 hours of ZBrush and 3 hours of Affinity Photo, Keyshot usage is short and basic).

Speed:

The entire tutorial runs at normal speed. NO super accelerated time-lapses.

Audio Commentary: Real-time commentary as I work on the project (English).

Software used: ZBrush (Sculpting), Keyshot (Rendering), Affinity Photo (Compositing

and Extra Effects).

Additional Assets: Custom UI and Hotkeys, ZBrush ZTool, Keyshot Scene, Affinity Photo Final Project File (original layer stack – not flattened).
