Introduction to Autobiographical Comics (Spanish, Multisub)

Get inspired by your experiences to create stories in four boxes Learning to narrate your own life in vignettes is an art that requires the desire to tell a story and, above all, a sense of humor. The illustrator and cartoonist Mariano Díaz, also known as Marianoenelmundo, has been publishing his illustrations for more than a decade in publishers in Spain and Latin America and for some time you can also find his autobiographical comics on social networks and on his blog.

In this course you will learn to make vignettes based on your own life exploiting the possibilities offered by four paintings. Starting from a daily situation inspired by your day to day, you will see how to take a story from a simple note in the notebook to the cartoons of a short comic.

What will you learn in this online course? You will start knowing the work of Mariano Díaz and his major influences. It will also tell you what the autobiographical comic is and explain why you choose this format to portray your own experiences.

From the hand of Mariano you will see how to keep a logbook in which to write down the most relevant anecdotes of your day to day and then transform them into comics.

You will discover the basic characteristics that the cartoon drawing must have, you will learn to compose a background and a character in movement according to your graphic abilities.

Mariano will give you tips to add text to your cartoons using the right words to avoid losing your spontaneity.

You will learn about the sequential language of comics; You will see how to organize the vignettes to make better use of them and how to adapt that same story so that it provokes completely different sensations.

To finish you will apply color to your cartoons; Watercolors are Mariano’s favorite technique to carry out this work.

What is this course’s project? You will make a diary of one week of your life that will serve as a source of ideas. You will highlight anecdotes of your day to day that are worth sharing and turn them into short vignettes of four paintings.

Who is this online course for? To illustrators, cartoonists, cartoonists and anyone interested in learning or perfecting their techniques to turn their experiences into graphic and comic narrative pieces.

Requirements and materials It is not essential that you be a drawing professional, since Mariano will teach you to take advantage of everyday anecdotes using your own style.

With regard to the materials you will need a notebook, drawing material, ruler, scissors and markers. In addition, you can use watercolor or any other technique with which you feel comfortable or dominate to give color to your comics.
